Thomas Miller has announced it is to partner with the global charity Street Child, which works to ensure all children are safe, in school and learning and has committed to raise money and support the charity for the next two years.
Street Child is a global charity, established in 2008, that aims to create educational opportunities for some of the most vulnerable children in low resource environments and emergencies. The charity has a presence in over 20 countries across Africa and Asia as well as an emergency response in Ukraine. The charity believes every child deserves the right to safety and to be empowered through education.
Street Child targets children in low-resource environments and emergency situations, focusing on a sustainable combination of support to protect children from harm; create safe schools; increase capacities of caregivers and communities to build environments for children to flourish; and help state systems provide high-quality, equitable education and livelihood skills.
Thomas Miller will be supporting Street Child’s programme in Afghanistan. Street Child is working with the large numbers of vulnerable children and their mothers in the country who find themselves in conflict with the law, via reintegration and rehabilitation support. The project also supports the children of refugees who are now returning to Afghanistan and we’re looking to support 100,000 children and their families in Afghanistan across a broad range of services.
On the successful launch of the partnership, Donna Beetham, Street Child Head of Corporate Fundraising, said “We are delighted to be Thomas Miller’s chosen charity partner. Support from Thomas Miller employees over the next two years will help us ensure children are safe, in school and learning in some of the world’s toughest places. Places like Afghanistan, where we provide vital support to families and continue to educate children including girls during the worst humanitarian crisis ever seen”.
Fiona Cowie, Chief of Staff for Thomas Miller, says: “Thomas Miller has chosen Street Child as its designated charity partner as we believe every child has the right to be safe and have access to potentially life-changing education wherever they are in the world. We understand there are well over half a million people, including children, now reintegrating to society in Afghanistan and we want to help Street Child support these children to cope with the massive amount of change they are experiencing in their lives.”
