The Standard Syndicate extends range of insurance covers and recruits senior underwriters

umbrellaThe Standard Syndicate (Syndicate 1884), which focuses on providing a broad range of insurance covers to the marine and marine energy industry sectors, has extended its range of covers to include Political Risk, Political Violence & Terrorism and Fine Art & Specie classes.

The Syndicate has recruited senior Class Underwriters with long market experience to lead the new lines.  It has also recruited additional underwriters to further strengthen its capability across all business lines.

Alexandra de Souza Mattos has been appointed Underwriter – Political Violence & Terrorism.  She has worked in the London market for 25 years, mainly as a broker, and for the past 11 years has focused on placing worldwide business for Political Violence & Terrorism Risk and Terrorism Third-Party liability, both in Lloyd’s and in overseas markets.

Ms de Sza Mattos was at RFIB as a Divisional Director responsible for the development of the portfolio.  She is a specialist in covering on-shore assets at risk of political violence and terrorism from both a physical damage loss perspective and also business interruption. She works with organisations to ensure that they have the right cover in place, to minimise any loss should they be unable to trade due to terrorist event.

Hubert Belanger has been appointed Class Underwriter – Political Risk. He has more than 30 years’ experience as underwriter and spent the last 16 years specialising in Political Risk and Credit insurance.  He began his career with Chubb Insurance in surety and specialty Financial Lines and a book of business across Canada, Belgium and the UK. During the last five years, he has managed the Political & Credit single Risk book of Atradius Credit Insurance from their Paris office.  He has specialist knowledge in developing cover for clients to protect them should they be unable to use certain assets due to a political situation. His expertise covers all aspects from covering the asset itself through to contract risk due to a political risk event.

Joshila Tailor has been appointed Class Underwriter – Fine art and specie. She has been an Underwriter at Lloyd’s of London and working in the Company market for the past 17 years. She started her insurance career at C.R. Hill Syndicate, where she became a Fine Art and Specie Underwriter. She has underwritten cover for a number of prestigious museums around the world, personal art collections, exhibitions, classic cars, jewellery and precious commodities including gold and diamonds.

The Standard Syndicate has also further strengthened its liability, D&O, Hull and Cargo capabilities with the further appointment of four new experienced class underwriters. Sajjad Jaffer has been appointed Class underwriter – Liability; Sarah McGurk has moved from 1884 Europe to be Underwriter – D&O; Danielle Burr has been appointed Deputy Class Underwriter – Hull and Michael Wilks has been appointed Deputy Class Underwriter – Cargo.  Nicola Jones has also been appointed Business Producer – 1884 Europe.
