‘Time for Action – Decarbonising Maritime and Offshore Renewable Energy’ is the theme of the UK-based Society of Maritime Industries’ (SMI) Annual Conference to be held this year at the prestigious Sage Gateshead venue on the River Tyne in Newcastle on March 8-9.

SMI members and the wider maritime industry are invited to join the event which is currently scheduled to be held in person but will transfer to a virtual format (with half-price ticket refund) should the pandemic preclude such an indoor event being held, say the organisers.

The conference will take place over two days, with a roster of speakers from Government, regulators and industry exploring the opportunities for collaboration in decarbonising maritime and offshore renewable energy.

With a UK refreshed National Shipbuilding Strategy expected early in the new year, this will be one of the first (if not the first) major industry events following its publication, says the SMI, where it will be possible debate the broadening of the strategy to encompass the commercial, workboats and leisure sectors.

There will also be a Conference Reception and Dinner, as well as the innovation this year of exhibition stands in a specially designed break-out area and catering space.
