Singapore has its sights set high on becoming a ‘global maritime knowledge hub by 2025’, according to the latest governmental meeting of the 3rd Maritime Research and Development Advisory Panel (MRDAP), hosted by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Based on the identification of global trends in the four key maritime business sectors of port, shipping, maritime services, and offshore marine & engineering, the panel has pushed for technology-driven investments and maritime research and development into clean and eco-friendly solutions to global shipping.

Tay Lim Heng, Chief Executive of the MPA, said of the vision: “It is important to develop Singapore as a global maritime knowledge hub if we want our maritime cluster to move to the next level of competition. Staying at the forefront of technology, therefore, is an integral part of Singapore’s growth as an international maritime centre.”
