The Port of Sines is part of the Top largest European container ports, according to an analysis by expert Theo Notteboom, from PortEconomics.
The same publication highlights that in the first nine months of this year, the Port of Sines grew by 22.5% in container traffic, ranking in the top three places of the European ports that grew the most.
This position in the ranking of the largest ports in the European Union, reveals that the port and its entire port community, despite the pandemic context, showed a great response capacity, ensuring an increase in movement and consolidating its position as national leader in volume of charge.
It is important to highlight that this performance took place simultaneously with the ongoing expansion works at Terminal XXI and which, at the end of the project, will make it possible to double the annual handling capacity to 4.1 million TEU.
The same article also recalls that in 2020 the Port of Sines was the second fastest growing European port, with 13% more container handling, in a year in which many of the main European ports show reductions in handling in this segment.
