Trelleborg wins key contract for SafePilot P3 navigation systems with Hyundai Heavy Industries
Trelleborg Marine and Infrastructure has secured a contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), headquartered in South Korea, to deliver its advanced SafePilot P3 navigation systems for 71 vessels. This agreement underscores the system’s rapid adoption since its launch in December 2022, with over 2,500 units sold globally to date. The partnership not only highlights the increasing demand for advanced navigation technologies but also reinforces Trelleborg’s expanding footprint in the competitive Asian market.
SafePilot P3 was developed specifically to meet the Panama Canal Authority’s (ACP) new requirements for Neopanamax vessels. As the first navigation solution approved by the ACP, SafePilot P3 offers high-precision performance, seamless integration with Trelleborg’s SafeCaptain App, and a design that minimizes installation time and operational disruption. Its independent interface box and external antennas ensure operators can rely on it for safe and efficient navigation, while the SafeCaptain App doubles as a portable display for pilots and captains, showing official sea charts with dedicated overlays for precise vessel navigation.
"This is a major milestone for Trelleborg and a vote of confidence in the SafePilot P3 system," said Tommy Mikkelsen, Managing Director of Navigation and Piloting division at Trelleborg Marine and Infrastructure. "Hyundai Heavy Industries is a global leader in shipbuilding, and their decision to partner with us demonstrates the trust the industry has in our innovative solutions.”
With this contract, Trelleborg continues to solidify its position as a market leader in precision navigation solutions, ensuring safer, faster transits for vessels worldwide.
