Heavy lifting and multimodal transport provider Mammoet has acquired an 8 ha undeveloped harbour site on the Axel Plain at Autrichehaven in Westdorpe, near Terneuzen, the Netherlands.

The company intends to develop a third, multi-purpose terminal on this site, which will signal a major expansion of the stevedoring activities on the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal. The project is expected to further raise the profile of Zeeland Seaports as an alternative to the ports of Antwerp, Ghent and Vlissingen, for the storage and transfer of goods for third parties.

Mammoet has also announced its intentions to use the site as a test location for three new generation super heavy lift cranes which it is currently manufacturing.
