Maersk Tankers has sold its 15 owned VLCC vessels to Euronav.
The divestment is part of the Maersk Tankers strategy to focus on product segments. Morten Engelstoft, CEO Maersk Tankers, said: “Last year, we disclosed our intention to reduce our exposure to the VLCC market and focus on the product segments going forward. Euronav has now presented us with a deal that supports this strategy.”
The sale affects a number of seafarers on the VLCC vessels and employees on shore and Maersk Tankers is working closely with all those affected in order to minimise job losses.
The vessels will be delivered individually to Euronav over the coming months, once Maersk Tankers has fulfilled all existing contractual commitments. Maersk Tankers is working closely with Euronav to ensure a smooth transition of the vessels.
