L’Austral, the first of two luxury cruiseships ordered from Fincantieri by French owner Compagnie du Ponant, the CMA-CGM Group subsidiary, has been launched at the Italian shipbuilder’s Ancona yard.
The 10,700 tons gross ship, which will operate under the French flag, is 142m long and 20m wide. It can accommodate some 260 guests, in 132 cabins and suites, all with a sea view, of which 94% have a private balcony.
L’Austral, due to enter service in the autumn, is a sistership to Le Boreal, also under construction in Ancona.
