dryadSenior Portsmouth dignitaries gathered on Wednesday at Dryad Maritime’s UK headquarters as Graeme Gibbon Brooks was presented with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise on behalf of his team.

The award is the highest business accolade a UK company can receive and is granted to companies who demonstrate outstanding achievement in contributing to UK business innovation.

HM Lord-Lieutenant Nigel Atkinson toured Dryad Maritime’s operations room speaking to the expert team of commercial and former Royal Navy analysts before presenting the award to the Chief Executive Officer.

The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor David Fuller, and members of the press were also invited to the ceremony and took tours of Dryad’s state of the art facility getting exclusive insight into the technology used at the maritime intelligence and operations headquarters. Visitors watched as Dryad’s team of analysts monitored and analysed weather patterns and the movements, assaults and trends of pirate action groups and maritime criminals across the world.

Dryad Maritime received the award in recognition for their outstanding achievement in the innovation category for their work in developing intelligence-led systems that improve the safety of seafarers around the globe. Creating what can be likened to Air Traffic Control but for ships, Dryad’s innovations include a bespoke geo-spatial tracking system which monitors the positions of client vessels, hostile and friendly forces as well as risk exclusion zones. Their award winning Fleet Management Service optimises the performance of vessels through its provision of route guidance based on fuel efficiency, risk, SOLAS convention and adverse weather patterns.

Mr Gibbon Brooks said: “This award is testament to the hard work, dedication and fortitude of the Dryad Maritime team who have given their whole-hearted commitment to supporting the company’s growth ambitions over the last five years, whilst continuing to deliver unrivalled service and support to our existing and new clients.

“Our team continue to deliver and delight in equal measure with a level of service that is at the heart of our strong reputation in the maritime industry. Given the tempo and scale of our growth, it should also serve as an encouragement to other entrepreneurs and UK start-ups who strive to achieve commercial success. It seems like only yesterday that we embarked on this journey with an idea, a small loan and just two colleagues.”

Dryad Maritime was created nine years ago to provide expert commercial services to shipping around the world with intelligent data to help mitigate the dangers present in the maritime industry, including in some of the most dangerous waters in the world.
