Technical and scientific consultancy Brookes Bell has appointed Capt. David Ireland as a Principal Master Mariner. He will be based in the US and brings local Special Casualty Representative (SCR) capabilities to the region following the company’s acquisition of marine consultancy firm 3D Marine USA Inc, earlier this year.

Capt. Ireland brings with him a wealth of experience in marine consultancy. He is a master mariner with a 28-year long career in the tanker industry and has been listed as a member of the Lloyd’s SCR Panel since 2016.

Across a prominent career he has worked in Singapore and the USA and has handled numerous cases for P&I Clubs, Hull & Machinery Underwriters, Shipowners and Lawyers involving a wide range of vessel types. He is highly skilled at conducting newbuild, demolition and marine warranty surveys, collision and grounding investigations, vessel damage and hull repair investigations, berth and fixed object damage and cargo contamination examinations. He frequently provides expert advice and opinion on tanker operations in court and at arbitration in both the UK and USA.

Capt. David Ireland, Principal Master Mariner, Brookes Bell commented: “I am delighted to be joining Brookes Bell and being part of a multi-disciplinary scientific and technical consultancy with a such widely recognised reputation for unrivalled expertise across so many disciplines. I will be working closely with the 3D Marine team in Houston, as well as all the other Brookes Bell global offices across the UK and Asia, developing both our services and global reach.”

Anthony York, Chief Operating Officer, Brookes Bell added: “We are delighted to welcome David to the Brookes Bell family. David’s appointment demonstrates our confidence and ambition as we look to grow our presence in the Americas. His experience and technical expertise will strengthen our US operations, boosting our casualty capabilities, ensuring that our global team continues to exceed our customers’ expectations.”
