“K” Line reports that its capesize bulk carrier Cape Taweelah, under Capt. Jonathan Funa, successfully rescued 35 people from a migrant boat in distress 270 nautical miles south of Gran Canaria Island on June 29.

The vessel, managed by New Century Overseas Management and sailing under the Marshall Islands flag, had received a request from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at Las Palmas. All rescued people were safely disembarked in Tenerife.

The Master of the Cape Taweelah was sent a personal message of thanks by the Las Palmas MRCC, acting on behalf of the Spanish Maritime Safety Agency, thanking him and his crew for their assistance.

The letter expressed appreciation for the master and his crew’s “professionalism and excellent seamanship” in being “more than willing” to come to the aid of the migrant boat, “giving immediately assistance to people in distress”.
