At the recent Annual General Meeting of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC), Themis Papadopoulos (pictured), CEO of Interorient Shipmanagement, was re-elected to the Board and re-appointed as its President for a further two year term commencing May 2017.
The CSC is Cyprus’ main resident shipping association incorporating more than 170 shipping related member companies.
Mr Papadopoulos said he was honoured that the Chamber’s Board had re-elected him to continue as President and he “looks forward to continuing the existing close collaboration with the Chamber’s Board, the entire team at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works and the Department of Merchant Shipping”.
Mr Papadopoulos also emphasised the necessity to maintain a strong Cyprus shipping industry, as the ever-growing global shipping market demands high quality operations and services. He pointed out that his main aim for the Chamber is to work very closely with the Cyprus Government, the House of Representatives and all Chamber associates, in order to ensure that Cyprus maintains and increases its attractiveness, both in terms of a high quality and safety conscious Registry, as well as a competitive and business-friendly base of operation for shipping and shipping related companies.
Born in 1974 in Famagusta, Cyprus, Mr Papadopoulos graduated from the University of Warwick before joining Interorient Navigation Co Ltd in 1997. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2004, a position which he holds within the Group today. He is a Director of numerous companies including Tufton Oceanic Finance Group and CDB Bank. He is also a Vice Chairman of the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association.
