GE’s Power Conversion business has been awarded a contract by the Eastern Shipbuilding Group in Panama City, Florida, to supply integrated diesel-electric power, propulsion and vessel control systems for two multipurpose supply vessels (MPSVs).
“GE’s commitment to delivering tailored solutions from design to installation to commissioning and servicing is their building block for our strong relationship with them,” said Ken Munroe at Eastern Shipbuilding Group.
Over the last four years, GE has signed seven contracts with Eastern, equipping a total of 24 vessels and recently Eastern and Hornbeck launched the first in a series of 10 platform supply vessels (PSVs), which GE also equipped.
The new contract is for the first of two multipurpose support vessels for Hornbeck Offshore Services of Covington, Louisiana.

“By listening and understanding customer needs, we are able to build longstanding relationships and partnerships.”
The vessel control systems include Class 2 Dynamic Positioning (DP), power management, alarm and monitoring, vessel control and an integrated bridge system comprising navigation and communication equipment.
Mr English said: “We are not just a partner for the shipyard. We are also a long-term partner for the vessel owner, Hornbeck. Over the years to come, we’ll be there to support them with service support, system enhancements and upgrades. We are there for the life of the vessel.”
