Fire school afterA flooded ship chamber, smoke-filled environments and live fire all await competitors in the 13th Damage Control Olympics which take place next Tuesday (29th April) at the Resolve Maritime Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The annual event attracts officers and damage control crew from US Navy and US Coast Guard vessels visiting Port Everglades during Fleet Week, with Academy instructors and personnel leading the day of shipboard firefighting and damage control competitions.

US Navy and USCG team members will compete against each other in a series of practical, hands-on training exercises and shipboard emergency response scenarios. The programme of events provides them with an opportunity to hone skills during drills or training sessions and in live fire situations that are not possible in drills at sea.
