Braemar (Incorporating The Salvage Association) has announced the dates for its 2012 Port and Shipyard Familiarisation Courses.

Each short intensive course has been developed to introduce marine insurance professionals to the basic technical aspects of shipyard repair, damage encountered in marine losses; marine surveying, investigating and reporting techniques. Delegates will gain a practical knowledge and a greater understanding of the way in which ships and ports function, and some of the key issues that might be raised when dealing with marine claims on a daily basis.

During each course a group of delegates from the marine insurance market will be accompanied by a senior marine surveyor from Braemar (Incorporating The Salvage Association) who will act as mentor. Depending upon the course, delegates will be familiarised with the various aspects involved in ship repair, bunkering operations, vessels in lay-up, pollution response, ship layout, construction and operations as well as gaining a wider understanding of marine surveying.
