Wärtsilä appoints Torsten Buessow to lead its Transas business

The technology group Wärtsilä today (Friday) announced the appointment of Torsten Buessow as Director of its Transas business. He will report to Joonas Makkonen, Vice President of Voyage Solutions at Wärtsilä.

Mr Buessow joins Wärtsilä from classification society DNV GL where he worked for more than a decade, first as a Vice President of the company’s Maritime Software Business Unit, and then as a VP of Fleet Performance Management, its Maritime Digital Business Unit. He earlier spent almost 10 years at Capgemini, a global management and IT consulting company, working mainly with logistics and transportation sector clients.

His expertise in maritime software, fleet operations, and post-merger integrations will be extremely valuable in delivering on Wärtsilä’s Smart Marine vision, and creating a truly modern, connected ecosystem for the future of maritime operations, the company said.

Mr Buessow said: “I am looking forward to leading the professional and experienced Transas team. We will continue focusing on creating solutions to improve ship and port operations, and maritime academies by leveraging the latest technologies, including machine learning, Big Data analytics, and other innovations.”
