Eurotunnel welcomes UK’s Lower Thames Crossing announcement

Eurotunnel today welcomed the announcement by the UK Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling that the route for the UK’s Lower Thames Crossing has been selected.

The Crossing is part of the vital trade route through the Channel Tunnel to Europe that provides supply chain access for the UK’s industries, the shortest and fastest route to markets in Continental Europe for exports, and the critical fast and reliable entry point for internet retail goods, fresh produce and medical supplies from Continental neighbours.

A quarter of the UK’s trade with European countries passes through the Channel Tunnel.

Jacques Gounon, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Groupe Eurotunnel, said: “Eurotunnel welcomes the Secretary of State for Transport’s announcement that the route for the Lower Thames Crossing has been decided and that this essential infrastructure will be built. It is a vital connection in maintaining the UK’s ability to trade profitably with its European neighbours.”
