New coating promises to cut cleaning costs and downtime

The latest line in coating technology was unveiled by International Paint this week, promising cuts in cleaning bills, fuel costs and the ability to carry over 25% more cargoes on chemical tankers.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics reduces carbon emissions by 21%

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics has reported a cut in its CO2 emissions by 21% for 2010 in comparison to 2009, in a positive change attributed to increased fleet optimisation and utilisation.

The company has also reported the results of its low-sulphur fuel policy, which has also allowed for some impressive reductions in sulphur emissions by 151,000 between 2000 and 2010.

Installation error sees ship manager pick up communications bill

A ship manager has been asked to pay $436,000 in communication costs following an error in which a crew were unintentionally granted unrestricted internet access for a three month period, leading to hefty airtime charges.

Graig wins major Chinese newbuilding contract

Shanghai-based Graig China, part of the UK’s Graig group, has won a 10-ship order to supervise newbuildings for Chinese leasing company Minsheng Financial Leasing Co. The supervision contract brings to 23, the number of Chinese-owned vessels building in Chinese shipyards under the supervision of Graig.
